Prof. Dr. Siegfried Mauser
born in Straubing in 1954 he studied to become a pianist under Rosl Schmid and Alfons Kontarsky at the Munich Conservatory. He further studied musicology, philosophy and history of art at the universities of Munich and Salzburg. His dissertation focused on the subject „The expressionistic musical theater of the Viennese School“.
He was appointed to a professorship for piano at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and for music history at the Hochschule „Mozarteum“ Salzburg. There he founded a research institute for musical hermeneutics. Since the winter-semester 2002/03 he is also the holder of the chair in musicology and is the institutional director of historical musicology at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Since the winter-semester 2003/04 he is the principal of that Hochschule. He won the Bayerische Kulturförderpreis (cultural sponsorship award) for his earnings. Since 1990 he further is a full member of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste.
Apart from numerous publications Sigfried Mauser gives concerts as soloist and chamber musician both nationwide and internationally. He recorded a couple of albums such as the complete piano works of Paul Hindemith, Alexander Zemlinsky and Karl Amadeus Hartmann.
